Looks like there may be links to Flatekval Family. My interest goes back to 870 to 1300 & 1900s when my Father was sent to Wisconsin at 8yrs old. He would not allow me to learn NOR., if in Rome you speak as Romans do. If in Canada--etc.etc. A true descendant of the Kings Messenger on Viking Ships. Thank you for doing this.

I am the GG Grandson of Ole Jakobsen Iversstuen who was born in Ringebu, I believe, I know his father Jakob Kristensen Iversstuen was. Ole emigrated to Wisconsin, USA in 1869 with wife Kari Iverdtr Anstad and family. One of the sons was Lewis or Laurits. He is my Great Grandfather. The last name of this family was changed to Paulsrud along the way, either before or after emigrating. Do you know why? I believe it may be the name of a farm. If it is could you tell me about it? Thanks you very much John

You have an absolutely wonderfull web site. You have done a great job for your own family tree, but have done a better service for all of the "Trees around you." For this I thank you. My reason to "Post", beyond grattitude for the pictures, is that My "Great Aunt, Anna Hong-Rutt, (My dad's aunt, who I knew for years, and dreaded;) wrote a book, (I always thought that it was a vanity book "only for the family," and I have 2 copies. (Dad's and mine.) From the internet, I find that it is a "usefull research tool for people from Norway" and that it got out! This is how I found this web site. *** I love seeing the map site of the location where the "Hong Farm" is. Thanks! My deal is this. I will get one of my books out of storage, and will be glad to help anyone in anyway that I can, with one proviso. The Internet is a "Toy to me", (look at by ISP...I don't pay extra because it is not that important!) Because of spam, title your request "Norway help". That should stand out, then let me know what is interesting, (I'll search in Auntie Anna's book and let you know if and what I find.....fair deal? I don't even charge.) If it gets stupid, I bail out. Haven't stopped by to check out your site recently. WOW! You've done a lot of work, and the results are fantastic. For some reason I haven't been able to even get into my site for at least two years. I'll check in soon, however, when I really have some time to look around. Friday, two days ago on Oct 20th was Monte's birthday. When I called he was with friends hiking up in the mountains and Judy was making dinner. Her ankle is now fully healed--very lucky it was a clean break and no tendons damaged so she had little pain and healed quickly. That probably happened after they had been over to see you. We still talk about their visit with you, all they saw and did. As always, Luther

My great grandfather Ole Christianson emigrated from Ringebu with his wife Mari Johannesdatter Seielstad in about 1875 and settled in New Richmond, Wisconsin where he is buried. We recently received a letter from a Kaldor in New Jersey, USA, who is looking for ancestors, and found our name. He was born in Hungary, and his name is Robert Kaldor. Hello! My sister, Wanda Weinberg and I will be travelling in Norway in May, trying to retrace our ancestry. We know that a Great Grandfather of ours, by the name of Anton Kraabel, wrote that he was born in "Oier, Guldbrandsdal", and we feel that he may have the spelling wrong. His father was Torgor Olson St(r)angstadhagen who married Ranhild Brekke, who together bought the Kraabel farm, and changed their name to Kraabel. Anton was born there in 1862. We will be in your neighborhood around May 27/28, and will try to contact you, if it is alright. Thanks for sharing your hard work!

I am very interested in tracing an ancestor from the Locken farm in Lunner Parish. Her name is Kjerste Paulsdatter, the daughter of Paul Petersen. Her daughter, Margaret Petersdatter, is from the Amlien farm by Einasfjord in Oppland County. Kjerste is my great, great, great grandmother. It is said that she could trace her ancestry back to the 10th century, but I don't know how to find such records. The county records department in Hamar said it would not be possible to find any information beyond 1600. Do you have any tips (help) for me? I find Clay Molstad's comments about North Dakotans rude and inconsiderate on such a venerable web site as yours. Many North Dakotans can trace their ancestry to the Kaldor farm. His simple-minded comments not only reflect poorly on those who appreciate this web site and helped construct it, but they also make me quite concerned about the state of medicine in Indiana.

My twin brother is also a professor at California State U in San Bernardio. Our great-great grandfather left Gran in 1872 to emmigrate to North Dakota (poor choice: one can easily tell intelligent North Dakotan's from the ones still living there). I practice internal medicine and geriatrics in Indiana.

Dear sirs,I am Alexander Potapov, 43. I have found Your e-mail address in the internet WWW and here I would love to ask You about an opportunity to get a volunteering position for the 1-3 months this year or in the future. I visited UK in 1993 when I stayed as a volunteer in Brecon Beacons NP. It was the great expierence. Last year I was lucky to find a chance to visit the USA where I have been as a volunteer in Altoona, PA. There I worked on repairs and restoration of historical buildings. I hope to be helpful once more. My permanent job here in Russia is at hte historical museum in Archangelsk, north of Russia.I work as a technician there. I will be able to collect money for travel fees only and if You will provide the volunteers with board and perhaps stipend or pocket money it will be great in my situation because of extremely low payments in that sphere of activity. I am sure to be helpful. My home address is:A.Potapov Voskresenskaya 92a - 47Archangelsk 163046RUSSIAVery sincerely, Alexander

My husband's mother immigrated from Fagernes area of Norway along with her mother and several brothers and sisters in the late 1800s. Half the family went by the name of Hovrud and half by Kolden. These we have discovered were the names of the farms they either were born on or were working on when they left. The fathers surname was Evenson. One sister remained in Norway, probably in the Fagernes area. Her name was Olive Brane. >

My paternal grandparents, Olaf Johnson & Emma Bagstad, moved to the Stavely, Alberta, Canada area and started raising Black Angus cattle, in 1905, 06 or 07. Hi Do you remember us from our visit last Aug. We will never forget our wonderful trip. I have a computor now but we are not on the internet yet. We are at our sons home for a grandsons bithday. I can't believe how easy it was to find you on the internet. What a thrill to see a picture of the farm again and to be able to show it to my son. I have not looked up that information for you about my family but I have not forgotten and I will do it.

I am 1/2 norwegian, my mother is 100%. Can you tell me what primost is made of? My grandmother use cook it with cream and sugar and we would spread it on bread. I bought gjost, it's spelled wrong I'm sure but it's a goat cheese and I fixed it the same way, I thought it was the same as primost and my Mother and sister were horrified. We can't find primost any more, but what is the differance between the two if any?

Your website has been a wonderful find for me! I am visiting Norway in April and I wanted to find my some of my ancestors on my mother's side of the family. One family is from the Paulsrud farm. Your map is a great resource. I would like to know where I might purchase a map of Oyer. I am hoping to locate the farm. My great grandfather is Nils Olsen Paulsrud, born in Oyer on July 21, 1847, the son of Ole Nilsen and Else Jonsdatter Paulsrud.

I attended the Elderhostel course on Norwegian genealogy at Maville State Univ. last June. I especially enjoyed the lectures by both of you. Thanks so much! I have just gotten a new PC and have just connected to the Internet tonight. So I thought I'd try getting to your home page and was successful. Now I can pursue my Norwegian genealogy in earnest using all the sources you gave us, Nanna. I've just received Family Tree Maker (version 5, the latest) and am anxious to begin entering information. My grandparents emigrated from Meraker, and their two recent Bygdeboks enabled me to go back 7 generations. But I have many branches of the tree to fill in, so your information should help me considerably.

This web page worked miracles for me in finding the origin of my Lee (Lien) ancestors. Now I'm hoping for one more. Last week, I discovered that another of my lines came from Øyer, and that I gew up on the Minnesota farm they had homesteaded. The 1865 census has Johannes Nilsen, b. 1831, living with his wife, Ingeborg Erlandsdatter, and two children at Hagebakken, Øyer kommune. The children were Even and Randine. Another daughter name Randine, born later, became my grandmother. The Nilsen family emigrated in 1865, then spent nine years in Chicago, where he worked as a carpenter, before moving on to Lake Hanska Twp., Brown County, Minn., in 1874. I would like to know about any resource that could provide further information on this family in Norway or the U.S.

Your web site is simply superb. On Monday, I still didn't know where my maternal grandfather had lived in Norway. In less than 48 hours, I not only learned about Oyer, but had downloaded the lineage from your page. I am a descendant of Ole Frantssen Lien, who emigrated, with his brother Frantz, from the Lien farm in the late 1860s. Other ancestors lived on the Nermo, Kruke, Skaden and Ringdal farms. I have the lineage back to the early 1700s, but would like to go back further.

I've enjoyed viewing your site and finding the Botterud connection to the Kaldor Farm. I just recently learned of the Botterud Farm . . . but after visiting your site it appears that there are actually two? One in Tretten and one in Oyer. My great-grandfather was John Harold Botterud who emigrated from the Botterud Farm to Wisconsin in the 1860's or 70's. He had eleven children . . . three boys . . . Carl, Andrew, and Harry. Harry was my grandfather, his son, Harry John Botterud, Jr. is my father. I am named for Carl and Andrew. I am 42 years old and live in Pasadena California with my wife, Kari Haugen.

Hello Nanna, I just wanted to let you know that my copy of the Øyer and Tretten Kirkeboker arrived today, and I have been having enormous fun poring through them. In the process of doing so, however, I have also gained an even greater appreciation of the wonderful service you have provided by publishing your genealogical database on the Kaldor Farm Home Page.  You make the process of doing research on Øyer infinitely easier than it would otherwise have been. One of the things I have most enjoyed discovering today is that my Bergum (then called Strømsjordet) ancestors left Øyer at almost exactly the same time as Kristian Kaldor and the Jahrshagens (12 April - 13 April 1866).  Given how closely they were related (Kari Strømsjordet was a first cousing of the Jahrshagens), I suspect that they may well have ended up traveling together. Thanks again.

Hilsen Christian.

Hei, just found your web site... very interesting..I am from Montana and also raise cattle. We have red Angus and Limosine cattle. My Ancestors came from the Segelstad farm in Gudbrandsdalen near Hundorp. My 4th cousin is on the farm now and has a farm Museum for tourists and visitors. I hope to visit next year and will try to stop in and say hi. Thanks for the great page, Scott Seilstad

Jaha - flyttet side var det. Maa si at utviklingen gaar fremad! Kikk innom i saa fall.

You have an excellent page. My dad, Luther Olson, told me about it. I teach at a semi-rural high school in Kansas, not far from Kansas City -- I'll show your page to some of our agriculture students. My home page has some genealogy work that my dad has done, mainly on the Rush and Silbaugh families. Thank you for the glimpse of Norway - I want to get there someday! -- Mark

Your web page was a real find; not many Kaldor's over here know about it, but we're spreading the word. There is a Kaldor reunion at the Aal church June 21 1998 in the Hillsboro/Mayville area of North Dakota, USA. All relatives are welcome! There are no invitations, just show up.

How exciting to find an ancestor that went back to 1220 on this site. I had been at a dead end for one of my ancestors and discovered many many of them here. Thank you very much for all the work that was put into this project.

I've been talking with the Kaldors -- Gary, Keith and Lee about our ancestors. I always knew we (Bagstads & Kaldors) were related. Now, they know it too!

I have just found out[through the net] that my stepfathers family came from Gudbrandsdalen. The family name was Lunke. I have been trying for a year and a half to trace it. Most of his family came to America and settled in LaCrosse Wisconsin. If there are any Lunke's still in Gudbrandsdalen, I would like to correspond with them. My mother was norwegian also. I am doing this for my step brother. Thank you.

I am impressed with your page. I am trying to find out where in Norway my Great Grandfather was born and who his parents are. His name is Ole Olsen Ulberg, born 20 Feb 1853. He immigrated to America arriving in the Port of New York in June of 1867. He settled in Wisconsin around Blair and Arcadia. He married Randine Marthea Knudsen who also was born in Norway. The married on 27 Dec 1884 in Blair, Wisconsin. After having five children they moved to Northern California. Ole died a couple of years later, and all that was put on his death certificate for place of birth was Norway. This was also the case for his marriage certificate, only Norway for place of birth. If anyone has any ideas please Email me. Thanks.

Fantastic job of updating! I love the maps and the genealogy database. A part of my father's family came from Øyer -- apparently from Bergom (the family's name in the U.S. is Bergum) and Strøm (Hans Johannessen Bergum married Kari Johannesdatter Strøm (?) in 1856 and had 2 children born in Strømsjordet before emigrating to Coon Valley, Wisconsin in 1866). I'm trying to research the Øyer connection and confirm some apparent guesses that were made by my grand- father's cousin back in the 1930s. She believed that Hans Johannessen Bergum, who died in Benson, Minnesota in 1918, was the son of Johannes Guldbrandsen Høvren and Ragnhild Hansdatter Skaaden, and that he was borne to them in 1832. Nana's genealogy doesn't carry far enough forward on Johannes and Ragnhild's line for me to confirm or deny this connection, but it's still an inspiration to me to keep working. Many thanks for a truly unique and superb homepage that will be of tremendous use to all of us Americans who are trying to trace our Øyer heritage!
